2018 Fall Trip - Day One, Vernal to Pendleton

Sweetie and I got off to a very early start this morning.  She has been on a whacky sleep schedule lately and was up at midnight.  I was awakened at three by my bladder alarm (it’s heck getting old) and was too excited to get back to sleep.  We decided it was time to go and we were on the road at 4:00 AM.  It was raining as we pulled out of town and didn’t stop until we were in Weber Canyon nearly to Ogden.  It didn’t get daylight until Morgan either.  We had a good time visiting though and as always, got in the groove very quickly.

We stopped for breakfast in Snowville and had terrific omelets at Mollie’s Cafe.  The place was hopping and only had one waitress, but she was a miracle worker and kept everyone up to speed so efficiently that it looked easy.  We’ll stop there again!  Great food!

We got back in the car just in time to listen to Conference.  We got it on Sirius XM Channel 143, BYU Radio.  Unlike yesterday, there were no glitches or interruptions and we loved feeling the Spirit and enjoying the wonderful messages, changes and encouragement!  We belong to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints!  And we thank thee, oh God, for a Prophet to guide us in these latter days!

The wind always blows at the border and today was no exception.  It was cloudy, even foggy in places but the rain had stopped.  We made good time across the beatiful farmland of Southern Idaho and took a break for gas in Meridian and drove by to see the Temple.  Such a lovely setting there above the river.  We headed on west intending to stop in Baker City, Oregon for the night.  But we got to Baker City with almost and hour of Conference to listen to, so we carried on and got to Pendleton just after Converence ended.  Another Temple in the Philippines!  Yay!  It was a 740 mile day!  A record for us.  Sure went great though and seemed to pass in a flash!

We had a nice dinner at OMG Burgers!  Sweetie’s was a Bacon Bleu Slider and mine was a Country Fried Burger on a bun!  Both were outstanding!  For dessert we had doughnut holes with sugar and cinnamon dipped in maple bacon sauce!  Wow!  Great food and good service.  Batting 1000 today!

While there we reserved a room at the local Best Western and were ready for bed at five.  Actually I can’t sleep, but Sweetie is out like a light.  We’re delighted because we only have a two hour drive to Hood River tomorrow and our favorite Orchard!

Have I mentioned how much we love technology and the ease with which we can navigate, negotiate and locate good places to eat and stay.  Happy times to be alive!

When are you arriving in Portland? Are you taking a circuitous route?
